Entry-level driver training (ELDT) is the federal training new commercial drivers must complete before certain CDL tests. Since February 7, 2022, you need it from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry if you are:
applying for a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time,
upgrading from a Class B CDL to Class A, or
adding a hazmat (H), passenger (P) or school bus (S) endorsement for the first time.
ELDT has a theory part and, for every license except hazmat, a behind-the-wheel part. Eldthub provides the theory online, so you can take your ELDT theory online on a phone or laptop and be reported to the registry, usually within 24 hours of passing. Not sure how it works? Your state verifies your training through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR) before it lets you test, so the provider you pick must be listed there. Eldthub is an FMCSA-registered ELDT provider, which is what drivers mean when they search for FMCSA approved ELDT training online. As an ELDT training provider we report each completion electronically, usually within 24 hours, and keep your records available to you and your state licensing agency. See why drivers choose Eldthub.

Entry level driver training online is the theory part of ELDT, completed on a phone or computer instead of in a classroom. FMCSA allows theory to be delivered by online learning, as long as your provider is listed on the Training Provider Registry and you score at least 80% on the assessment.
Yes. ELDT is a federal requirement, and your state checks the Training Provider Registry for your completed training before your test. Eldthub is listed with coverage in all 50 states and D.C.
You need ELDT if you are applying for a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time, upgrading from Class B to Class A, or adding a hazmat, passenger or school bus endorsement for the first time. Choose the course that matches your license or endorsement using the course table above.
You do not need ELDT for a license or endorsement you held before February 7, 2022, even if it has since lapsed. You are also exempt if you got your commercial learner's permit (CLP) before that date and earn the license or endorsement before that CLP, or its renewal, expires. If you are unsure, ask your state licensing agency.
For Class A, Class B, passenger and school bus, yes. Class A and Class B need range and public road training, and passenger and school bus need range or public road training. Hazmat is theory only. Eldthub provides the theory; complete behind-the-wheel with a provider listed on the registry.
Class A and Class B theory are $39 each. The hazmat endorsement is $30, and the passenger and school bus endorsement courses are $25 each, all as one-time payments. The Class B + Passenger bundle is $60, and Class B + Passenger + School Bus is $85.
Yes. Eldthub is an FMCSA-registered ELDT provider listed on the Training Provider Registry, with coverage in all 50 states and D.C. Drivers often search for this as FMCSA approved ELDT training online; the registry listing is what your state checks.
